Instagram is testing “features,” a horizontal video format supporting clips up to 90 minutes, initially for selected comedians and podcasters. Meta hopes users will watch full podcasts and comedy programs on TVs after discovering shorter clips through Reels. The company is expanding its TV apps to Apple TV, alongside existing Fire TV, Samsung, and Google TV platforms, with support for Stories, live streams, and episodic “series.” The initiative aims to challenge YouTube and attract more valuable advertising partnerships. Meta previously attempted a similar strategy with IGTV, which was discontinued in 2022, but says it remains committed to longform video over the long term.
